Description
Imatinib mesylate (also called Gleevec) is a small-molecule inhibitor of the fusion protein Bcr-Abl, the causal agent in chronic myelogenous leukemia.
As an inhibitor of R, imatinib mesylate appears to have utility in the treatment of a variety of dermatological diseases. Imatinib has been reported to be an effective treatment for FIP1L1Ralpha+ mast cell disease, hypereosinophilic syndrome, and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans.
Imatinib mesylate in in vitro and in vivo at the cellular level of inhibition of Bcr-Abl tyrosine kinase, can selectively inhibit Bcr-Abl positive cells, Ph chromosome positive chronic myelogenous leukemia and acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients with fresh cell proliferation and induce apoptosis. In addition, imatinib mesylate can also inhibit platelet-derived receptor , stem cell factor (SCF), c-Kit receptor tyrosine kinase, which inhibit F and stem cell factor mediated cell behavior. For the treatment of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) blast phase, accelerated phase treatment after failure of chronic phase patients; resection or metastasis of inoperable malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) patients.
